Fixed interest in your super

Some of your super may be invested in fixed interest. Your asset types may vary – but will often include asset backed securities and bonds.

Asset backed securities

These are investments whose value and income is generated from (and also backed by) a pool of financial assets. Such pools might include payments from credit cards, consumer loans and royalty payments.

Bonds

These are issued by governments and large corporations when they want to raise money – for example, to fund an initiative. By buying a bond, an investor is giving the bond issuer a loan. In return, the issuer will pay periodic interest, plus the loans face value when the bond reaches its end date.

Other fixed interest

Fixed interest investments such as discount securities, hybrid securities and loans.
