In July 2021 the Insurance in Superannuation Voluntary Code of Practice (Code) was replaced by Guidance notes to support vulnerable members and appropriate claims handling standards.

What was the Code?

The Code was first introduced in July 2018 as a set of standards for the superannuation industry for insurance held within super.

These standards were designed to create a greater understanding, clearer accountability and consistent delivery of insurance benefits in superannuation.

What are the Guidance Notes?

Since its introduction, parts of the Code were superseded by changes to laws.

In July 2021 the Code was replaced by Guidance notes to support vulnerable members and appropriate claims handling standards.

What does this mean for your employees?

Insurance is there to protect members when they need it most. Your employees can now access information to better understand and compare the insurance they have in their super with us.

We’ll always recommend that members seek advice from their financial adviser to ensure that their insurance cover is suitable for their needs.
